Carmey Avdat Desert Wine Resort
Accommodations, Coffee House, Winery, and Group Tours
Imagine driving through the Negev Desert, turning onto an unpaved road, and suddenly finding yourself surrounded by green vineyards laden with red grapes ready for harvest. At the end of the dirt road there is a boutique winery, a coffee house with a unique menu, and comfortable guest cabins. You have reached your destination!
This may sound like a place in Toscana, but it is not. It is Carmey Avdat Farm located in the heart of the Negev Highlands only a five-minute drive from Sde Boker. Here you can enjoy a vacation at a farm and boutique winery in one of the most unique and intriguing areas in Israel with a vast variety of attractions, hiking trails, and activities.
Our Guest Cabins
Vacationing in our guest cabins is a unique experience
Our guest cabins are unique and different from anything you have experienced Before!
We offer 14 cabins for guests aged 16 and up. Some of the cabins are secluded and provide total privacy with an adjacent sauna, Jacuzzi, desert bathing tubs, and a breathtaking view.
The 8 cabins in the Artists’ Village are located in the center of the farm near the
coffeehouse and winery. The design of these cabins is inspired by the wooden barrels in which we store our wine in our family winery. There is a coffeemaker and bottle of wine in each cabin.
There are no television sets in the cabins. It’s only you and the quiet desert
surroundings – making your vacation experience complete.
Carmey Avdat Winery
Our vineyard was planted in the summer of 1999 on the remains of an ancient 1,500-year old farm.
The vineyard was planted in the summer of 1999 on the remains of a 1500-year-old vineyard. We planted the vineyard while carefully preserving the ancient terraces, and continued to utilize the original irrigation system. The family winery was established in 2005.
There are six varieties of grapes in the vineyard from which we produce 12 different varieties of wine in limited editions ranging from 300-2000 bottles. Eyal, the winemaker, takes care to create the wines to express their desert flavor, which is unique and different from wine produced anywhere else. This is done using lengthy, cold fermentations, aging the wine in oak barrels, and minimal intervention in the natural production process.
The exciting tour of the winery includes an archeological exhibit of clay amphorae that were used to prepare and store wine in the ancient winery. Visitors can taste the wines and purchase bottles of wine that are only available at the winery.
Café Mona
Stop for a few minutes to choose one of the enchanting corners of the coffee house and relax in the atmosphere of the farm.
Enjoy the atmosphere of the farm in one of the charming corners in Café Mona.
The coffee house is located near the central square of the farm, similar to the coffee houses in the village squares in Italian villages that served as our inspiration. The coffee house has outdoor seating for pleasant sunny winter days and an indoor seating area with a cozy fire for rainy days. The indoor seating area is air-conditioned during the summer.
The coffee house menu includes breakfast, wine tasting and cheeses, light meals, delicious Italian pizzas, coffee, and cakes. Guests can also enjoy working in one of the quiet inspirational tables complete with WIFI and charging station.
We are pleased that Café Mona has become the neighborhood coffeehouse for local residents, and we enjoy receiving them again and again. The coffee house also serves breakfast to guests from the cabins in the “Artists’ Village”.
Café Mona is open on Mondays to Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Tables should be reserved ahead of time on weekends.
Tours and Activities for Groups
A unique and exciting experience
Carmey Avdat Farm offers an exciting and unique experience for private groups, companies, and organizations.
Groups are invited to enjoy a tour of the farm, learn about the single-family farm project in the Negev, and explore the process of grape cultivation and winemaking in the past and present, taste the wine, and enjoy a delicious vegetarian meal.
All activities are catered to the character of each group.
Carmey Avdat was established as an agricultural tourist farm – a concept that is now referred to as agrotourism. The idea was inspired by farms in Europe – many of which are hundreds of years old. The farm combines innovative, exceptional cultivation of grapes for the production of high-quality desert wines in the family boutique winery, guest lodging, and ecological tourism.

Explore the Farm
With Eyal’s Audio Tour
We prepared and marked the paths on the farm many years ago, and we love to see our guests touring the farm using our illustrated map. An audible tour of the farm is now available through a mobile phone application that is compatible with the map of the farm. Visitors can listen to Eyal’s explanations about the different sites while they tour the farm. Eyal has also recorded two podcasts about the farm and about irrigating vineyards in the desert.

Ecology and Agrotourism
Ecology has been a part of our Raison d’etre since the establishment of Carmey Avdat Farm. We have invested extensive effort to promote ecology, and have cooperated with leading researchers in developing innovative and sustainable solutions. We emphasize ecological tourism and transmit a message of sustainability as part of our obligation to the public. We have found that agrotourism is a viable source of income in addition to promoting ecology and preserving the environment.

Social Involvement
We believe that a vacation is more enjoyable if it has additional social significance and contribution to others, therefore we offer a unique vacation experience that supports the Israeli Epilepsy Association. Guests in our cabins contribute NIS 25 per night, enabling us to provide free lodging to parents of children with epilepsy. These vacations offer caretakers respite and allow them to gather strength and continue their intensive care.
Our guests talk about their stay:
Rooms: Exceptional - bring your flip-flops Activities nearby: Avdat ruins - interesting and worth a visit
Hiking trails: Ein Avdat
Food and drink: wine tasting on location, especially with Eyal.
